Preparing for Childbirth: Central Channel Release by MaDonna Hill

Caitlyn is a university professor in her late 30’s. She has been a regular massage client for several years and our work together has been primarily to address the stresses of life. At this session she is well past her 40th week of pregnancy and her physician has indicated that they will induce labor if she hasn’t delivered before her appointment next week. She was clearly concerned about the baby being overdue.

As a long time client, I was very familiar with Caitlyn but had never introduced acupressure into our sessions before. She was still clearly anxious throughout her massage, and I decided to gently suggest some acupressure at the end of her session. She agreed.

She was in a side-lying position with lots of pillows to support the baby and her back and there wasn’t much time left in the session so I chose to do the Central Channel Release. As a practitioner it was truly an honor to be with this mom-to-be and her new baby, waiting to be born. I could feel both of them so clearly as I held the points on the front and back of the body. Caitlyn was also very moved by this, and began to cry. As I finished the session and quietly left the treatment room her tears turned to a deep emotional release and I could hear her sobbing.

I checked in with her through the closed door, but she said she would be out in a moment. When the door opened she embraced me deeply and said----“I know what this is all about now. It’s me. I’m the one who hasn’t been ready. I’ve been so afraid for this baby to be born. I know how to take care of her in here (during pregnancy), but I don’t know how to do it out there (once she is born).”

Caitlyn went home deeply grateful for this realization, and later reported that from that moment on she began to have a different conversation with her unborn child. She began speaking to the child about how happy and excited they were that she was coming soon, and that they couldn’t wait to see her and hold her and love her.

Less than 72 hours later contractions began on their own, and a beautiful baby girl was born soon after.
